Micro Batch of Elderberry Tincture 🔮

Elderberry works by preventing and shortening bacterial & viral respiratory infections by modulation of inflammatory cytokines. Cytokines are messages sent by white blood cells to each other to respond to infections. When you get sick it’s not the virus or bacteria that makes you feel terrible— it’s your body’s response to it.

Don’t start taking elderberry when you get sick. Rather, take some daily or a few times a week in your normal state of health. Taking it when you are starting to feel sick (if you were not taking it before) can increase your symptoms as your immune system ramps up.
If you were taking it before you got sick, it’s best to increase your dose for a couple days—this will lessen the duration of your illness!

Fire Cider 🔥 LFG!! Am I rite? Ready for winter now baby!
Use any and all of your spicy ingredients for this one. I use red onion, garlic, jalapeños, turmeric, ginger, lemons, cayenne, cinnamon, and peppercorns. I really wish I had some fresh horseradish root this year but it was not to be.
Your foods rich in sulfur (garlic, onions) are your antibiotics & your spicy foods are going to open up your sinuses and cause you to sweat—stimulating your lymphatic system.
Amounts don’t matter! This is all to your taste & liking. Remember you are the one who is going to have to consume it! If you cannot handle hot salsa, maybe only add one hot pepper 🌶️
Pour apple cider vinegar over your creation leaving 1-2 inches at the top for your honey. Add the honey to the rim & cap it off. Let it sit (I’m putting mine in the fridge) for 3-4 weeks, strain and use 1 tbsp/day or up to 3 shots a day when feeling under the weather.

Last year I made this with just ACV and added the honey after I strained. This year I’m going to see if the honey extracts even more of the healing properties of these foods.

A little Sunday kitchen witch magic 🧙‍♀️🫚🍋🌿My garden passed away with the frost like I knew it would, but all the mint is surthriving! I took it as a sign to make some medicine.

First, I made a tincture. If you’ve never made one, it’s very simple. Fill any jar with fresh plant matter & cover with 100 proof vodka. Give it a rough chop first, but don’t pulverize.
Strain after 6-8 weeks. Take drops, not shots 😂 Tinctures are potent medicine!

I then took the rest of my lemon balm & threw it in a pan with ginger & lemons and 4 cups water. I boiled it down about half way, strained it, added some honey and froze it into cubes. You can add a cube to a hot cup of water whenever you’re feeling cold or under the weather. Thanks so much to April Graham for this recipe!

Lemon balm is a wonderful herb for calming and soothing the nervous & digestive systems with antispasmodic actions. She’s also a mild sedative, a good safe herb for kids. Lemon Balm is rich in polyphenols which have strong antiviral action.
